The three-day event to celebrate the bridge opening on March 2-4, 2012, was the largest freeway celebration in the history of North Texas freeways.

After the first round of bidding produced bids which were nearly 100% over the estimate, Williams Brothers construction was the only bidder to participate in the second round of bidding. Working with TxDOT and the steel fabricator, Williams Brothers substantially lowered cost to near the estimate, making it possible to proceed to construction. Williams Brothers was the unsung hero of the bridge construction. (Photo date: 3-March-2012)

The final event was a dedication early Sunday morning, featuring Calatrava and political officials. Instead of a ribbon-cutting, boy scouts and girl scouts carried green ribbons to the center of the span. (Photo date: 4-March-2012)
